My Kayaks

I fish from a Predator MX and Predator PDL. Both are manufactured by Old Town Canoe and Kayak. These boats (Predator MX, Predator 13, Predator XL, and Predator PDL) were designed with one thing in mind: fishing.

While the MX has fewer features than the 13, XL, or PDL it is still an awesome fishing kayak in it's own right. Some of it's best attributes are:

1) Modular Design - This boat comes equipped with 6 removable mounting plates. These are nice because you can add accessories to the boat without having to drill into the hull. They are also removable and interchangeable which is nice because you can move them around or just take them off the boat when not needed. This allows you a lot of flexibility in one boat that may be harder to achieve in other kayaks. I'm just as comfortable in this boat fly fishing for Crappies, casting for Muskies, or trolling for Trout and Salmon.

2) Stability - At 34'' wide, this kayak is extremely stable making paddling, fishing, and standing very comfortable and easy. During the summer, I took the MX out on a lake and put the stability to the ultimate test. I was able to stand with both feet against one side of the kayak and still not have it tip over. In addition, with some practice, I was able to walk around the kayak and fish from various positions. While fishing, I now spend much more time out of my seat than in it.

3) Deck Design - The Exo-Ridge deck funnels water to 8, 1-Way scupper valves that let water leave the boat but not come back in. Nothing is better on a cold day than having a dry ride. The MX also features a completely open deck design giving it tons of room for standing and casting. The open deck also makes it a really excellent fly casting platform. There are very few things that can catch your fly line.

4) Element Seating - The seat is extremely comfortable. It has three positions: High, Low, and Stand-Up. The low position is good for travel, paddling, and fishing in adverse weather when you want more stability. The high position is good for casting. In the stand-up position, the seat unsnaps and folds into the back of the kayak. This makes the open deck even larger and opens the deck of the boat up even more.

  2. After buying a fishing kayak, paddle and life vest, the next logical step for most anglers is adding a fish finder. Some anglers want only a compact or portable fish finder with limited features. best kayak fish finder
